Klosterneuburg Abbey – One Place. A Thousand Stories.
In the newly renovated galleries of the Museum of Modern Art at Klosterneuburg Abbey, INK’s drawing “The Entombment of Christ” is now on display in the long-term exhibition alongside several Pietà works. Alongside the highly abstracted Pietà by artist Andreas Müller and the bronze sculpture by P. Raphael Statt, a sculptor and monk from Heiligenkreuz Abbey, other works promise a fascinating, contemporary exploration of the theme of Passion depictions.
The abbey was founded in the 12th century and was once expanded by Emperor Karl VI to impressive size and splendor. Here, in the “Escorial of Austria”, one finds one of the country’s most renowned art treasures. It includes, for example, the Verdun Altar and the Austrian Archducal Crown. “The Entombment of Christ” has been added to this collection.
This place, with its countless stories, is always worth a visit. Information on events and opening hours can be found here: Stift Klosterneuburg.
